Two
days after Hullavington was our big local show of the year, The Bristol
Motor and Classic Car Show.
This is a superb event on Durdham Down in the
Clifton Area of Bristol. We had an area booked for 12 cars and filled it
completely. The show is jointly organised by the Bristol Evening Post
and Barnardos with all proceeds going to Barnardos raising money for
under privileged children.
The
"Slush Fund" paid for all the entrance fees and refreshments
so the show was free to members. The show is a good mix of old and new
with cars and motorbikes from the pre war era up to the modern day.
There is also a huge fun fair along with stunt and aerobatic shows which
makes the occasion ideal for the whole family. The star on our stand was
Barry Ashcroft's superb Seight which he had just finished and attracted
the most attention from onlookers. We had a number of enquiries from
interested people and Holly at Westfield Sportscars had sent me a supply
of brochures to hand out to genuine people. If they buy 1 am sure we
will see them next year although one chap at 6ft10 was very enthusiastic
but did to fit in a car.
Any
outdoor event would not be complete without the rain, which duly arrived
after lunch. The heavy downpour, which lasted an hour or so, made us all
take cover in John Kidd's (him again) tent, which was very cosy. When we
emerged the nice grass tracks had been turned to mud so all the cars
went home in need of a good wash. Overall it was a superb day with
something for everyone and we look forward to filling a stand again next
year.
